French Boules (Set)

R230.00

On our recent (rather wonderful!)  trip to Zanzibar we spent a day on a boat with a group of fellow tourists doing touristy things, one of which was enjoying a fish braai on a most spectacular little island. There were a few games that you could play (although most people opted for drinking and eating instead!), one of which was boules. An American friend we had met, James, and I were at loggerheads about what the correct French name was for what I insisted was boules. He claimed that the French name was in fact pétanque, which admittedly I didn’t realise was spelled in such an obviously Frenchy fashion! It turns out that we were both right, with pétanque being one of the games that falls under the broader heading of boules. But looking at the set that we have for sale today I still argue that the most commonly accepted name is boules, as is clearly stated on the pamphlet! So there you go James!

P.S. Today’s set consists of four steel balls, and two jacks (one being a spare), and was made by French manufacturers, JB Petanque, the apparent inventors of the steel ball in 1927, and the originator of the controversial name, pétanque!
