The advantage of doing what I do is that now and again when something takes my fancy I can swap out a piece of art or furniture to make space for my new obsession! Which is how I’ve come to sell this fantastic Walter Battiss print that we had professionally framed about a year ago – as much as I love it (and I really do!) another vintage print by German poster artist, Ludwig Hohlwein, has won me over! So it’s goodbye Battiss, hello Hohlwein! But had you asked me a week ago if I would give up my Battiss print, the answer would have been a resounding “No!”.
I know that Battiss’s art is not for everyone, and that it needs just the right space for it work, but I loved seeing it hung in our home – I think it looked fabulous! And the clean white frame, with an off white mount, gives the print a very contemporary look.
A wonderful Christmas gift for someone in your life who appreciates good South African art. I can tell you that if someone gave me a gift as fantastic as this for Christmas the brownie points would be overflowing!
P.S. I think we paid about R700 to have the frame made, so in essence you’re only paying R300 for the vintage print, which is in excellent nick!
