We’ve been finding some great vintage gallery posters lately, with today’s Saul Steinberg print being another winner! Steinberg was a Romanian-American cartoonist and illustrator, best known for his work for The New Yorker. Today’s print, which is complemented by a very plain, but very attractive aluminium frame, was used to advertise a 1986 exhibition of Steinberg’s illustrations at the Parisian contemporary art gallery, Lelong. Like a lot of vintage gallery posters, today’s Steinberg print is fairly collectible, selling for as much as R3500 framed!
Note: The glass was broken when we bought the poster, so we’ve replaced it with 3mm glass, which is thicker (and more expensive!) than the original glass – the framer’s were concerned that it had broken because it was too thin for the size of the frame….
