I have to say, I’m quite taken with this Joan Miró print, advertising an exhibition of his sculptures in Paris in 1985, which would have been just two years after his death. Looking at the style of the frame I assume that the poster was mounted around the time of the actual exhibition – that slightly garish gold frame definitely has a bit of an ’80s vibe to it, doesn’t it? Fortunately though the frame’s not offensive at all, and despite some minor signs of wear doesn’t take away at all from the fabulousness that is Miró’s artwork!
P.S. Original exhibition posters can go for a fair bit – a 1985 Miró poster is currently on sale on chairish.com for $200 (R2800), with older posters going for as much as $800 (R11 000), so seemingly they make for good investments over time!
