This fabulous figurine of Diana & the Fawn brings back fond memories of my old shop – a friend of mine fell in love with it when she spotted it in Mint, and I gave it to her for her birthday (at least I think I did – I have a horrid memory!). But recently she married an English lad and moved overseas, so Diana has come back to me, and I have to say I’m absolutely delighted to see her again! Isn’t she just fabulous? Aside from the fact that it’s a depiction of a female goddess (Diana was was the Roman goddess of the hunt, the moon and childbirth. She had the power to talk to animals and vowed never to marry!), it’s also just a really beautiful sculpture! I’m not entirely sure what she’s made of – possibly metal – or her exact origin, but it looks like she was based on a 1950s Royal Haeger lamp? She works just fine without the addition of the lamp – her size means that she’s super sturdy, and makes a great impact when you walk in the room. My friend, Janet, had her sitting on top of a tall chest of drawers and she looked quite striking!
