Danish Melamine Salad Servers

R135.00

Me and salad servers! I love them! It’s probably because salad’s about the only decent thing I can produce in a kitchen that I have such an affinity for good looking servers, but I also think it has to do with how good design has a role to play absolutely everywhere. Today’s salad servers are made of Melamine, and despite being stamped ‘Made in Denmark’ are actually the work of an American company, Hutzler Manufacturing Company Inc., started by German native, Ludwig Hutzler, in 1938. Hutzler started producing Melamine in 1966, winning the Housewares Design Award in 1968 for their Melamine serving set, with their melamine utensils having been exhibited in the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York City and the Philadelphia Museum of Art – you see I’m right to elevate salad forks to the status of art! And it looks like today’s wonderful olive green servers have barely been touched since they were first produced in the 1960s – there’s a small scratch on the back of the fork, but otherwise very few signs of use!

P.S. Unfortunately I had to make an unplanned visit to CPT so wasn’t able to take measurements before I left – apologies!
