These champagne coupes are from the same set as the lovely pilsner glasses that we sold earlier in the week, and I’m happy to say that they’re just as neat! They also have the same wonderful pattern cut into the glass (crystal?). When we were debating what the different glasses in the set were used for my friend, Debbie, told me how this style of champers glass is also known as a Marie Antionette – traditionally champagne coupes are far rounder than today’s example, and it’s (shockingly!) rumoured that their design was inspired by the shape of the teenage Queen’s pert bosom! I’m not sure if there’s any truth to it, but it does makes for a great dinner party story, perfect for retelling while sipping out of today’s rather fabulous glasses!
Note: We have two sets of glasses for sale today – one complete set of six, and another set of five
Dimensions: Each glass measures 10cm tall x 8.5cm in diameter
