I know that these (rather wonderful!) chopping boards aren’t in keeping with our usual retro fare, but when I got an opportunity to buy these really characterful new wooden breadboards, I just couldn’t resist! In effect they’re roughly hewn slabs of gumtree, with only one of the boards being shaped into a traditional breadboard, but it’s their naivety (and bulk!) that makes them so attractive. We’ve kept one of the boards for home, and have been using it daily for the past few weeks. It does require a fair bit of oiling (although maybe that’s the case with all breadboards, I’m not sure?), but I can tell you that they’re great to prepare food on, and also look pretty amazing as a permanent feature on our kitchen counter!
P.S. Just a thought, but wouldn’t these also make for great shelves? Just add some strong metal supports underneath, and you have yourself a very cool and unique bathroom shelf! Also please take note of the dimensions below – some of these bread boards are quite seriously large – hence my suggestion for shelving!
Dimensions (in order of photographs): Chopping board 1 – 62cm long x 36cm wide x 2cm deep; Chopping board 2 – 67cm long x 26cm wide x 3cm deep; Chopping board 3 – 58cm long x 21cm wide x 2.5cm deep; Chopping board 4 – 62cm long x 22.5cm wide x 3cm deep; Chopping board 5 – 48cm long x 28cm wide x 5cm deep; Chopping board 6 – 34cm long x 22cm wide x 4cm deep; Chopping board 7 – 46cm long x 20cm wide x 1cm deep
