Who remembers these books from when we were kids?! I clearly remember the set that we had, in fact I think that my mom might still have the books at her house! The Childcraft series was first introduced in 1937, and was published by the same group as the World Books (I’m sure loads of you also had that wonderful set of encyclopaedias at home!). The series consisted of fifteen books, with an additional annual volume published every year from 1965 onwards. Going on the format of these books it looks like this set is missing Volume one, but has a special book on South Africa to make up for it. You can still by Childcraft encyclopaedias today – new they sell for a whopping $500!! I suppose books aren’t cheap these days!
P.S. I was visiting my folks when I bought these books and my 81 year old father read no. 8, Discovering Science, from cover to cover, so they must be fairly entertaining!
Dimensions: Each book measures 25cm long x 19.5cm wide x 2cm deep
