Cast-Iron Escargot Pan

The lady who sold me this beautiful enamelled cast-iron pan told me that she used it for poaching eggs, but I’m pretty sure that’s not what it was intended for – although hey, if it works, then why not! And I see a few other people also refer to these as egg poachers, so it would seem that it would work for eggs too? But from the little bit of research that I’ve done I think it’s most likely an escargot pan, intended for use in the oven, not on the stove – I almost wish it was for eggs, a little less scary than the idea of cooking snails! But each to their own I suppose, and if you’re serious about your cooking then you might even entertain the idea of doing snails for a special occasion, and when you do you’ll have just the pan for it!
