Art Deco Glass Bowl

R500.00

To look at, and in fact to touch this wonderfully decorative art deco bowl you wouldn’t easily realise what it was made from – I certainly wasn’t sure! The material is in fact glass, or more specifically black satin glass, with sterling silver overlay! Very posh indeed! It was made by the Rockwell Silver Company, which was started in Connecticut in 1907 by Lucien Rockwell and E. F. Skinner, and eventually merged with the Silver City Glass Company in 1978.

Today’s vase, which for its years is in remarkably good condition, must be going on for nearly 100 years now! There are some minor scratches towards the base of the glass, and the inside of the bowl is slightly mottled, but the silver is still brilliant, and the overall effect very striking indeed!

And in addition to being really beautiful to look at, this is quite a serious collectors piece. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find this exact bowl for sale online, but with Rockwell pieces going for as much as $800 (R12 000), today’s bowl is probably a pretty decent investment!

P.S. Our bowl isn’t massive – about the size of a large ashtray. Please pay attention to the dimensions below

Dimensions: 18.5cm in diameter x 4.5 cm deep
