I see quite a lot of platters for sale on my travels, most of which I pass by, but today’s Alfred Meakin platter caught my attention for its size and fabulous style! It dates to the 1930s, so not surprisingly there’s some wear in the form of scratches to the glaze, as well as some minor wear to the paintwork, but it’s still a very attractive piece of china, and at over 40cm long it’s large enough for pretty much any snacks you’re going to be serving! It could even work for a nice Christmas roast!

Aside from its generous proportions, it also has the most fantastic deco motifs, which is what really caught my eye – the slightly oddly named ‘Princess Fanfare‘ pattern conjures up images of the iconic art deco Empire State Building with its sharp angles and stepped building blocks.

A wonderful example of the art deco period in good condition for its nearly 90 years!

Dimensions: 41.5cm long x 34cm wide x 3cm deep
