Arabia Part Dinner Service

R390.00

I’m sure we had a set of bowls very similar to this set when I was a kid, but I’m also certain that our bowls weren’t Arabia – my parents would never have been able to afford a set like this! At $50 a bowl and $80 a plate (I’m not kidding!) this Arabia ‘Ruska’ dinner service might as well be made of gold, and I’m sure back in the day it was just as expensive, which is why I think our set was most likely from another pottery house. The bowls and plates are from the same service that my friend’s father bought his mom when he got his first job as an architect – but the thing I didn’t mention the other day, is that my friend’s gran was so touched by the gesture that she never use the dinner service, for fear of breaking any of the pieces (the irony of life!). So not only are there all six dinner plates and all six cereal/pudding bowls, but all of the pieces are in near mint condition – the only real wear is to the printed maker’s mark, which has pretty much vanished.

P.S. The Arabia Ruska pattern forms part of the Victoria & Albert Museum’s collection. Also if we use the prices from replacements.com and convert the total into Rands, these twelve pieces would cost a staggering R11 000 – again, I’m not kidding!

Dimensions: Plates – 26cm in diameter; Bowls – 4cm deep x 17.5cm in diameter
