Arabia Finel Percolator

The Finns really do know a thing or two about good design, don’t they? I mean just look at today’s coffee percolator – it was designed in 1957, but really it’s timeless, with that wonderfully ergonomic handle and sleek spout! It’s the work of Finnish designer, Antti Nurmesniemiand (1927-2003), and was designed for Arabia Finel. The Pehtoori percolator came in two sizes, Iso Pehtoori (big) and Pikku Pehtoori (small), with today’s pot being the more petite version. What’s unusual about the design, is that the two sizes aren’t identical, with a different shape to both the handle and the body of the pot – which makes the design even more impressive in my books!

P.S. The plastic handles have dulled with time, and there are one or two chips in the enamel, but even so this is a well priced piece – Pikku Pehtoori percolators typically sell for around $100 (R1400)
