I love these vintage pattern books! Aside from the fact that the illustrations are always so great, I really love the idea of someone using the patterns to recreate the dresses – there were some seriously great styles back in the day! Today’s Silver Scissors kit is still in its original box, and appears to be complete, although I can’t say so for certain – but these pattern books seem to have quite a following (there are even blogs about making the ruler included in this kit by hand!), so I’m sure that if something is missing you’ll able to find the solution online! Aside from the wonderful retro fashions, I found the (slightly tatty) box itself really interesting – it still has the original post office label, which is date stamped “10.4.59” – meaning that the box (and its contents) are going on for sixty years old! Pretty darn cool!
P.S. Someone was selling a Silver Scissors pattern book for a whopping £100 on eBay – that’s nearly R2000!
Unfortunately we’re in away in Cape town at the moment, so aren’t able to provide dimensions for this item
