Small 1950s Gouda Vase

R165.00 R99.00

My knowledge of Gouda pottery is pretty limited, so to be honest I wouldn’t have been able to identify this wonderful retro vase as a piece of Gouda if it weren’t so clearly marked on the base. I tend to think of Gouda as being far more garish (and floral!) – I had no idea that the Gouda pottery houses produced a variety of styles. Today’s vase (which reminds me a bit of a Zulu beer pot) was produced by the Flora ceramic factory in 1950s. The fantastic geometric pattern is called ‘Tosca’, with the shape being model 1079. Sadly there is a hairline crack in the vase, which is such pity because otherwise this vase is in great condition for its sixty odd years! Luckily the damage isn’t very noticeable, but it is there which obviously effects its value – the upside of that though is that we can sell the vase for a lot less than if it were perfect – as my mother always says, pluses and minuses to everything in life!

Dimensions: Approx. 14.5cm tall x 13cm in diameter
