Extra Large Gripstand Mixing Bowl – SOLD

Large Greens mixing bowl

Large Greens mixing bowl

I think I’ve only ever come across one of these super-large TG Green Gripstand mixing bowls, so to find one in such good nick was a real luck! At nearly 35cm in diameter this really is a very serious mixing bowl – you’re going to have to be a pretty committed baker to justify owning something this large (you could nearly wash a baby in it!). There’re some faint marks on the inside base of the bowl, but given its age, this bowl is in excellent condition.

The star of all vintage mixing bowls, this is going to make some baker out there very happy indeed!

Dimensions: 15cm tall x 34cm in diameter

Pair of TG Green Ltd mixing bowls

Pair of TG Green Ltd mixing bowls

I had to pry these TG Green mixing bowls out of the hands of the previous owner – well, not literally, but not that far off either! They had belonged to his mother and he really wasn’t very keen to part with them. But I had my heart set on them – when you see as much crockery as I do, it’s very unusual to come across something that you haven’t seen before, and I’ve never seen anything quite like this from TG Green, who are famous for their blue and white Cornishware and their Gripstand mixing bowls. I can’t seem to find anything like these bowls online either, but going on the maker’s mark it looks like they’re were produced sometime during the late 1970s, or thereabout. The bowls are identical to each other, but it looks like the one bowl saw a lot more use than the other – the white glaze has become more of a cream colour from use, and has a fair bit of crazing on the inside, but it’s still in very good nick. These are nice large bowls, so could be used for a variety of purposes – everything from mixing cake batter to serving up a large salad or pasta dish – I’m sure you’ll find some way of showing off these impressive bowls!

Gripstand Mixing Bowl – SOLD

TG Green & Co Gripstand mixing bowl

TG Green & Co Gripstand mixing bowl

My pics are a bit rubbish, but this is a really nice example of a TG Green & Co Gripstand mixing bowl. There’s a bit of wear and tear here and there, but compared to how worn these bowls normally are, this version’s nearly immaculate! Which is impressive, given that this is one of the older versions of these bowls – the maker’s mark dates the bowl to the early part of the 20th Century. With an angled base, these bowls were designed for mixing batter, and it’s a design that’s still respected today – you’ll see modern rip-offs of these bowls all over the net. A nice original piece of kitchenalia that would make a great gift for any baker friends.

Vintage Mixing Bowl – SOLD

Vintage Green & Co mixing bowl

Vintage Green & Co mixing bowl

This mixing bowl is a variation on the Gripstand or Easimix bowls produced by T.G .Green & Co. It has a very similar pattern and glaze, but is slightly smaller and doesn’t have that clever base that allows you to angle the bowl towards yourself while you mix your batter. Produced in the 1930s I think this bowl may actually be the precursor to the more famous grip bowls. The name ‘Green & Co’ is also linked to Cornishware, so I can only assume that it’s the same company as T.G. Green & Co, but an earlier incarnation. A handsome piece (with the usual signs of wear and tear), this bowl will make you look like you really know what you’re doing in your kitchen!

T.G. Green Easimix Bowl – SOLD

12 Feb

T.G. Green & Co Easimix bowl

T.G. Green & Co Easimix bowl

The Easimix bowl by T.G. Green & Co. must be one of the most famous mixing bowls to have ever been produced – I see that it’s even made an appearance on the super-popular Downton Abbey! Bizarrely though it’s not that easy to find out information about the different Easimix bowls, primarily because the company who manufactured these bowls also made the famous blue and white Cornishware, and nearly all the information out there relates to this famous cousin! But just by looking at the wear on this bowl you can see that it’s got some serious age to it – I’d guess that it probably dates to sometime around the late 1930s or early ’40s. In addition to the functional design of the bowl which allows you to easily hold it at an angle while you beat your cake mixture, this version also has the green dot and matching green lines around the inside circumference of the bowl – a lovely touch that makes the bowl that much more desirable!

T.G. Green & Co Gripstand Mixing Bowl

If you’re into your baking it’s almost essential that you have a T.G. Green Gripstand bowl! Doesn’t it just look like the quintessential mixing bowl? Unfortunately there are a few hairline cracks in this bowl which aren’t visible in the photos, but none of the damage is that apparent, and at 60 plus years old it’s not doing that badly! A classic design that’s stood the test of time.
