Collection of Kitchenalia – SOLD

Collection of kitchenalia

Collection of kitchenalia

This is a rather eclectic, but impressive collection of kitchenalia – if I do say so myself! My favourite piece is probably the small T.G. Green bowl which you use to separate the egg white from the yolk. Not being the most skilled of bakers, I think that something like this would prove rather handy. The vintage slotted spoon is perfect for getting your eggs out of boiling water (I used it last night and it worked a treat!), and the Tala ice cream scooper is a classic – I own a red version of this, and they really are very functional – and cool looking to boot! I’m not sure how often one would use a coconut shredder, but for interest sake alone it’s worth buying. I haven’t had a chance to try out the Kwik Whip mixer or the  Kitchamajig, but with names like those they just have to be cool – although I’m a little dubious at how quick the Kwik Whip really is (the glass jar scares me a wee bit – I think the whipping action might do some damage). And last, but not least, we have the Tala pastry cutters. I think that they date to the 1950s, and are pretty worn, but they really are a lovely set. The box itself is quite special, and while the metal of the pastry cutters is a bit worse for wear, I’m sure that they’re still perfectly fuctional.

P.S. Sadly I managed to break the pie bird after taking this photo, so it’s no longer available.

T.G. Green & Co Gripstand Mixing Bowl- SOLD

T.G. Green & Co Gripstand mixing bowl

T.G. Green & Co Gripstand mixing bowl

This T.G. Green & Co mixing bowl has seen plenty of use in its time, but that’s not suprising given that it’s been around for close on 100 years. It’s hard to date these bowls as most of the info available on T.G. Green relates to their famous Cornishware (that classic blue and white crockery), but several sites date this particular maker’s mark to the early 1900s. The prices of these bowls vary greatly, selling for anything from $15 to $100. The prices are dependant on the size of the bowl and their condition. The oustide of the bowl is in pretty much perfect nick, but the inside has some scratch marks caused by stirring (unfortunately not visible in the pics). The shape of the bowl was specifically designed for mixing – one side has a flat panel so that the bowl doesn’t rock from side to side when you tilt it to mix your batter. A classic piece of kitchenalia, perfect for baking or doubling up as a large salad bowl.

Green and Co. Bowl – SOLD

Green & Co seagull dish

Green & Co seagull dish

The paintwork on this lovely bowl from Green & Co has seen better days, but that’s not suprising given that the backstamp is one of the oldest stamps recorded for this famous ceramic house (circa 1930). Green & Co are now known as T.G. Green & Co and are most famous for their blue and white stiped Cornishware. This serving dish is much more vibrant than the subdued blue of their Cornishware, or the oatmeal beige of their mixing bowls, and it was the colour that first attracted me to the bowl – and then I saw the seagulls! Aren’t they fantastic?! I think the subject matter and that great blue more than make up for the wear and tear – besides at nearly 80 years old, I don’t think it’s doing too badly!

T.G. Green mixing bowl

T.G. Green mixing bowl

This mixing bowl from T.G. Green has seen better days – it has some marks on the inside base and a hairline crack on the side that has discoloured with use. That being said the bowl is still completely functional, and pretty darn good looking! Most sites refer to this bowl as ‘Cornish Ware’, T.G. Green’s most famous export, although the maker’s mark doesn’t state that it’ is so I can’t say with 100% certainty that it is.

T.G. Green & Co Easimix Bowl

T.G. Green & Co Easimix Bowl

I’ve always loved these Easimix bowls by T.G. Green & Co (England). I especially love this version for its single quirky green dot! There are some minor defects in the glaze on the inside of the bowl, and some crackling in the glaze from age, but generally the bowl is in good condition.

Dimensions: 26cm across x 13cm high
