I don’t know what it is about Melamine, but it really does have a special appeal for me. And this set of kitchen utensils is a great example of how functional and good looking this hard wearing plastic can be! The set is in pretty good nick, and the colour is to die for (did I just say that?). I have a very similar yellow version that I use on the rare occasion when I actually sepnd time in the kitchen, and they’re nice implements to cook with. The spatula, with its hard edge, seems more effective than a wooden version, and a lot less harsh on the pan than a metal spatula. A practical, lovely looking, hard-working kitchen set!

Addis kitchen forks

I bought this pair of Addis kitchen forks thinking that they would be used for serving salad, but then someone suggested to me that they could be used for dishing up spaghetti. I’m not entirely convinced one way or the other, but I do really like their simple shape. A nice design, and in nice nick too!

Melamine is such a great material – it’s hard-wearing, and comes in the most fantastic pastel colours like this lovely pink set featured here. Supposedly these bowls are in the region of 15 years old and have never been used (according to the person I bought them from). Their condition is near mint, and I love their honey-combe shape. Practical kitchenware that can withstand the onslaught of kids, while looking good at the same time!

Someone asked me if I had a fetish for egg cups the other day (the cheek of it!) – apparently I’ve had quite a few sets of egg cups on Mint over the past few months – but I suppose the truth of it is that they’re a reasonably cheap and accessible way of featuring a bit of retro in a home, plus they often come in bright colours which I think is an essential in a kitchen area. This particular set is made from Melamine (much harder wearing than plastic) and is in perfect condition, with the exception of one small chip which is not at all noticeable.

This is a nice solid set of egg cups in a classic ’70s green. The egg cups are in excellent condition and being made of melamine as opposed to plastic, have stood the test of time far better than most of their counterparts.
