Grindley soup tureen with ladle

It’s very rare to find tureens with their ceramic ladles still intact, so I was very excited when I came across this set by Grindley that dates sometime between 1936 and 1954. The pattern is called ‘Chameleon’ in reference to the multi-coloured edging that’s so striking. I know it’s completely over the top and definitely won’t be to everyones’ taste, but you have to appreciate it for its bold design – and the combination of the colours really is quite beautiful. It’s a large piece with a heavy price tag (I paid more for this tureen than I normally sell them for!), but it’s a special piece and well worth it. There’s a slight mark on the inside of the bowl, but other than that it’s in perfect condition. A great piece of pottery that’s sure to get your dinner guests’ tongues wagging!

Dimensions: Tureen – 25cm in diameter x 14cm high; Ladle – 24cm long x 10cm in diameter

1960s Grindley Serving Dish – SOLD

1960s Grindley serving dish

This serving dish from Grindley (England) is a bit of an odd piece in that the pattern is very ’60s, but the maker’s mark throws you a bit because it looks so contemporary. Despite looking a bit like a ’90s logo I was convinced that it was a retro piece and was relieved to find out I was right when I found it online. Obviously Grindley was racing into the future when it designed this backstamp! The dish is in excellent nick, with no damage that I can see. I love the matte glaze and the oversized flower pattern. The shape is also fantastic. All-in-all a winning piece!
