Corning Ware Skillet – SOLD

Corning Ware skillet

There’s definitely something special about Corning Ware – maybe it’s the fact that most of our grannies had a piece or two of Corning Ware in their kitchens! But it probably has more to do with the level of quality associated with their cookware. The pyroceramic heat resistant glass was first introduced in 1958. It was an offshoot of a material that was developed for a U.S. ballistic missile programme that was capable of withstanding thermal shock – a change in temperature of up to 450 degrees celsius. The iconic Cornflower pattern was designed by Joseph Baum who worked for the famous Charles Brunelle ad agency (I’m sure they were featured in Mad Men?).

This skillet is in pretty good nick. The underside is a bit worn and the handle has a few scratches, but the inside of the pan is fairly clean. I like the fact that it’s designed to pour from both sides – good looking and practical too. Despite its age I think that it still has plenty of life left in it – Corning Ware is designed to last (the opposite of most cookware produced today!).

Corning Ware Coffee Percolator – SOLD

Corning Ware 6 cup coffee percolator

Corning Ware 6 cup coffee percolator

This Corning Ware coffee percolator has been well used in its time. The inside of the pot is quite stained, and the lid is slightly damaged – but it still looks in pretty good nick from the outside, and while the inside is stained, it’s still very clean. Corning Ware has always been collectable (and pricey!) and its popularity hasn’t seemed to decline with time. It has a solid reputation as a quality brand, and its simple cornflower blue pattern is instantly recognisable. A classic pot that’s stood the test of time.

Corning Ware Teapot – SOLD

Corning Ware Teapot

I was never sure whether these Corning Ware pots were meant for tea or coffee, but fortunately I got a big clue when I found this version the other day that reads ‘le The’ (French for ‘the tea’). This teapot has been well used in its time, although you wouldn’t be able to tell from the outside of the pot. The inside does have some stains from the tannin in tea, as does the underside of the lid, but the overall impression is still clean.

Corning Ware Coffee Percolator

Corning Ware Coffee Percolator

These Corning Ware percolators always remind me of my childhood – I think my gran had one in her kitchen. For some people this would be a negative, but my gran had great style and anything that brings up memories of her is a positive for me! I love the clean lines of Corning Ware, the simplicity of it’s cornflower blue and white colour scheme, and its durability. This particular version holds 6 cups of cofee and according to reviews makes an excellent brew!

Corning Ware Coffee Pot – SOLD

Corning Ware Coffee Pot

Corning Ware Coffee Pot

The print on this Corning Ware coffee/tea pot is just wonderful. The colours and naivete of it reminds me of something you might find on a piece of pottery from South America, and when you combine the colourful birdies with the clean white of Corning Ware, you’ve got something quite special! Being Corning Ware I’m assuming it can go on the stove, but from the looks of it it never has been before (it’s in near perfect condition). If anyone knows if these pots are meant to be stove-top please let me know…
