Carlton Ware Sugar Bowl – SOLD

Carlton Ware acorn sugar bowl

Carlton Ware acorn sugar bowl

I’ve never come across a piece of Carlton Ware that looks quite like this – the colours are quite different to what you normally see and for the life of me I can’t find anything else in this shape or pattern by this famous pottery house. That being said it is in keeping with their subject matter which is normally botanical in nature (excuse the unintended pun!). It looks to me like an acorn sitting on an oak leaf. There’s a small chip on the underside of the dish, but other than that it’s in perfect condition. An unusual piece that would make a fine addition to a Carlton Ware collection.

Dimensions: Dish – 14cm long x 10cm wide; Bowl – 8cm high x 7cm wide x 10cm long

Carlton Ware Milk Jug – SOLD

Carlton Ware milk jug

Carlton Ware milk jug

This Carlton ware jug is pretty garish, but it’s so over the top that its’ garishness is quite beautiful. From what I can see it’s in immaculate condition, which is always quite important with collector pieces.  I really like the combination of the deep green with the soft pink glaze, and of course the gold handle is just fantastic! An unusual piece that’s sure to attract a fair bit of attention.

Dimensions: 13.5cm tall x 8.5cm in diameter

Carlton Ware Sugar Bowl – SOLD

Carlton Ware sugar bowl

Carlton Ware sugar bowl

This little sugar bowl from Carlton Ware has a fair amount of crazing, but other than that it’s in good nick (no chips that I can see). The crazing’s quite dark in places which isn’t ideal, but it’s such a pretty little bowl – and from a very reputable ceramic house-  that the plusses definitely outweigh the minuses. I particularly like the subtlety of the lily pad that’s impressed into the side of the bowl – so delicate.

Dimensions: 7cm high x 10.5cm in diameter

Carlton Ware Cabbage Leaf Dish – SOLD

The maker’s mark on the back of this typically kitsch Carlton Ware dish dates to between 1935 and 1961. I think it was probably made in the late ’50s/early ’60s, but that still makes it in the region of 50 years old. Given its age it’s in excellent condition, with the only damage being a very slight mark on the underside of the dish that’s not noticeable at all. Carlton Ware’s not for everyone, but for those who do appreciate its quirky style, this would be a great piece to add to your collection!

Carlton Ware Salt Bowl – SOLD

Carlton Ware Salt Bowl

Carlton Ware Salt Bowl

I’m not sure if this piece from Carlton Ware is meant to be used for salt, or mustard, or something completely different, but I just love it! I assume the lily pad is meant to act as a spoon rest, but I suppose it could also just be decorative. There is a small manufacturing defect where a bit of brown glaze has splashed onto the yellow of the flower, but aside from that the piece is in very good condition.

Dimensions: 5cm high x 9cm at its widest
