Collection of Pyrex Bowls

Collection of white pyrex bowls

Collection of white pyrex bowls

These photos don’t do justice to these lovely pyrex bowls – I didn’t realise when I took the pics how blurry they were! The wide rimmed bowl is from the Federal Glass Company, and is the first bowl that I’ve found from this American manufacturer. I think its shape is ideally suited for salad. I love the shape of the little Glasbake bowl that would originally have belonged to a Sunbeam mixer. I think that this bowl dates to the late ’50s. The Kenwood mixing bowl is probably the newest of the bowls, and the one in the worst nick (although still not bad). It has a chip in the rim, and some scratch marks on the inside base. Clean, simple and practical bowls perfect for everyday use.

Daisy Pyrex Dish with Lid – SOLD

Daisy pyrex dish with lid

Daisy pyrex dish with lid

This daisy pyrex dish has been well loved in its time, and it has the scars to prove it! There’s a chip on the underside of the glass lid, and some stains on the dish itself that I can’t seem to wash clean, but given that it’s in the region of 50 years old, I don’t think it’s doing too badly. A lovely looking, functional piece of kitchenware.

Dimensions: 30cm long x 17cm wide x 7.5cm high (with lid on)/4.5cm without lid

Measuring Spoons and Tala Cook’s Measure – SOLD

Tala Cooks Measure & measuring spoons

Tala Cooks Measure & measuring spoons

Despite the fact that they’re still manaufactured today, these vintage Tala Cooks Measures are very sought after. And I can see why! Aside from the fact that they’re handy items to have in the kitchen, they’re probably also the nicest looking measuring cups you can find – and somehow it’s always nicer to have an original. There’s a bit of wear to the outside of the cup, and the inside has yellowed a bit, but its condition is to be expected given its age (these cups were first manufactured in 1950).

I bought all three of these 1/4 cup measuring spoons from the same home, which is a bit odd really – I don’t know why you would need three of them? But I was very happy to have found them! I love these old painted wooden kitchen utensils. They’re not the most practical items in that the paint tends to flake off over the years, but even when they’re pretty worn (as this lot is) they still have a certain charm about them.

Dimenions: Tala Cooks Measure – 14cm tall x 10.5cm in diameter; Measuring spoons – 21cm long x 6cm wide (at their widest)
Price: Tala Cooks Measure R90; Measuring spoons – R45 each

Old Foley Umbrella Cake Stand

Old Foley umbrella cake stand

Old Foley umbrella cake stand

Cake stands are always quite cool (in the right setting!), but I particularly love the versions that come with these umbrella handles. I’ve actually only ever seen this type of handle on Midwinter’s cake plates, so I’m not sure if this one has been adapted or if Old Foley also made them. The Midwinter versions date to the 1950s, so I’m assuming that this one is from a similar era. The black plate does have some scratches that don’t show up in the pics, but other than that it’s a pretty clean piece. Make a statement at your next tea party with some petits fours displayed on this striking stand.

Spong and Co Mincer

Spong & Co mincer with booklet & discs

Spong & Co mincer with booklet & discs

I sold a version of this mincer towards the end of last year, and the other day I bumped into the gentleman who bought it – he told me that it was one of the best investments he’d ever made! I often think that items like these just end up looking pretty on a kitchen counter (they probably would in my house), so it’s really nice to hear that sometimes they’re put to good use! This is the daddy long-legs version of the smaller Spong I sold in September. Because of it’s design it’s possibly a bit more stable than the upright version – that being said it’s lost one of its rubber feet, and another one is barely there, so it’s not quite as stable as it should be. The two remaining feet, however, work really well at securing the mincer to the counter. It has all four of its original discs (or cutters), and even has its original pamphlet. A great looking piece of kitchenalia for those committed cooks out there.
