Retro Vinyl Pouffe – SOLD

Retro vinyl pouffe

Retro vinyl pouffe

I’m head over heels in love with this retro pouffe! I know it needs the right setting to work – if your decor’s too busy it’ll just add to the chaos, but in a clean, modern environment I think it’ll look fantastic! Over the years it’s been pushed slightly out of shape, but it’s still nice and frm and will work well as a spare seat or a rest for your tired feet. It’s made of great quality vinyl that hasn’t torn or faded with time, so I think it’s likely that it’s got a good few years left in it. A classic retro piece that’s sure to make a statement!

Art Deco Salad Bowl – SOLD

22 Feb

Art deco salad bowl

Art deco salad bowl

There’s something very appealing about this particular shade of green. The first piece I ever bought in this colour was an art deco measuring jug, and I couldn’t believe it was that old – the brightness of the glass just seemed too contemporary. I’ve since found other deco pieces of glass in this colour, so clearly it was in fashion at the time. The bowl is moulded glass, so it’s not a serious piece, but the colour and style make it stand out. I love the art deco design – just look at those fanned corners – quite lovely!

Note: The frosted glass is a bit worn in places (not visible in the photos)

Dimensions: 23cm in diameter x 9cm high

Stove-top Enamel Kettle – SOLD

Stove-top enamel kettle

Stove-top enamel kettle

I absolutely love this large enamel kettle! I tried it out on my gas stove and it looked right at home (wish I could hold onto this one). It’s a little worse for wear, but it’s the kind of wear you expect to see with older enamel pieces. I really like the fact that it’s black, and I love its gernerous proportions – it makes quite a statement. A classic piece that will last you for years to come.

Dimensions: 27cm tall (incl handle) x 22cm in diameter

Miniature Roulette Set – SOLD

21 Feb

Miniature roulette wheel

Miniature roulette wheel

This roulette set was manufactured by John Jaque & Son Ltd, the oldest gaming company in the world and the  inventors of croquet (the Jaque family were close friends with Lewis Carroll who features  a bizarre version of the game in Alice in Wonderland). I’m not certain of the age of this set, but I think that the wheel is made from Bakelite, so I’m guessing that it’s at least 50 years old. It’s a lovely set and appears to be completely intact (it even has the little ball stored away in an envelope that states “Be careful not to lose this ball” in handwritten cursive). My friend, Niall, and I ‘placed a few bets’ and I have to say that it was rather fun! The perfect gift for the man (or lady) who has it all.

Dimensions: Wheel – 20cm in diameter x 7cm tall; Mat – 143cm long x 39cm wide

1940s Vernonware Cheese Server – SOLD

21 Feb

Vernonware Modern California cheese server

Vernonware Modern California cheese server

This Vernonware cheese server really is a beauty! I love the art deco shape of the plate and the subtle glazed ridges. The shape is called Modern California and the glaze Azure Blue. This pattern was produced by Vernonware between 1937 and 1949, which makes the piece in the region of 60 years old – its condition is amazing given its age! While the design of the dish is something in itself, for me it’s the glaze that really makes it stand out: a lovely matt finish with the gentlest sheen. A truly special piece.
