Pair of pyrex bowls with kitchen decals

It’s been a while since I did a blog post on pyrexware, but despite its recent absence, pyrex will always remain my first love. Just look at this sweet pair! I’m particularly fond of the bowl with the yellow kitchen decals – yellow is the hardest colour to find in this pattern. Both bowls are in very good nick, although there are some faint marks on the rims of the bowls, but nothing noticeable. A classic pyrex pattern in near mint condition.

Dimensions: Each bowl measures 19cm in diameter x 11.5cm tall

Price: R80 each

JAJ Pyrex Dish with Lid – SOLD

It’s a bit of a catch 22 situation – I prefer this clear glass coloured pyrex to the milk white pyrex, but it marks so much easier than normal pyrexware. I suppose it’s because the wear is that much more noticeable on the clear glass. To be honest, my favouritism probably lies in the fact that this type of pyrex is not nearly as common as the traditional white pyrex, but it might also have something to do with the shape- the domed lid and the curved handles have such a great retro  feel to them! The underside of the lid of the dish has a few chips, but the bowl itself is chip-free. The colour is a bit scratched, particularly on the base – it really is quite difficult to find this style of pyrexware in mint condition, and relative to other pieces I’ve seen this example isn’t too bad at all.

Dimensions: 21cm in diameter x 10.5cm tall (with lid on)

Collection of Pyrex Bowls

Collection of white pyrex bowls

Collection of white pyrex bowls

These photos don’t do justice to these lovely pyrex bowls – I didn’t realise when I took the pics how blurry they were! The wide rimmed bowl is from the Federal Glass Company, and is the first bowl that I’ve found from this American manufacturer. I think its shape is ideally suited for salad. I love the shape of the little Glasbake bowl that would originally have belonged to a Sunbeam mixer. I think that this bowl dates to the late ’50s. The Kenwood mixing bowl is probably the newest of the bowls, and the one in the worst nick (although still not bad). It has a chip in the rim, and some scratch marks on the inside base. Clean, simple and practical bowls perfect for everyday use.

Dimensions: Federal Glass Co – 23cm in diameter x 12cm tall; Glasbake Sunbeam – 16cm in diameter x 11cm tall; Kenwood – 18cm in diameter x 13.5cm tall

Price: Federal Glass Co – R90   SOLD; Glasbake Sunbeam – R65   SOLD; Kenwood – R70

Set of Three Pyrex Bowls – SOLD

Set of 3 pyrex bowls

Set of 3 pyrex bowls

This particular blue is quite hard to come across in pyrex, so I was delighted to find this set of three matching mixing bowls. The largest bowl has a small chip in the rim (see pics under ‘more’), and the decals are slightly faded, but otherwise it’s a very clean set. These bowls would look great displayed together on a kitchen shelf.

Dimensions: Large bowl – 19cm in diameter x 11cm tall; Medium bowl 17cm in diameter x 10cm tall; Small bowl – 14cm in diameter x 9cm tall

Price: R150 for the set

Daisy Pyrex Dish with Lid – SOLD

Daisy pyrex dish with lid

This daisy pyrex dish has been well loved in its time, and it has the scars to prove it! There’s a chip on the underside of the glass lid, and some stains on the dish itself that I can’t seem to wash clean, but given that it’s in the region of 50 years old, I don’t think it’s doing too badly. A lovely looking, functional piece of kitchenware.

Dimensions: 30cm long x 17cm wide x 7.5cm high (with lid on)/4.5cm without lid
