Collection of kitchenalia

Collection of kitchenalia

A small, but sweet collection of vintage kitchenalia! I particularly like the wee chick egg cups, but all of the items are rather nice! And they’re all in pretty good nick, although the metal jelly mould is a bit warped on the base. The egg  beater’s unusual in that it has a faux wooden handle. Aside from its great shape I like the glass jelly mould because it’s actually pyrex. An interesting assortment of (fairly) practical items for your kitchen.

Dimensions & Prices:

Egg cups – 7cm tall x 5cm in diameter; R45 for the pair   SOLD

Pyrex jelly mould – 8cm tall x14cm in diameter; R80   SOLD

Metal jelly mould – 15.5cm tall x16cm in diameter; R50   SOLD

Egg beater – 31cm long; R70

Note: Mint puts up four new items every weekday. The first post goes up at 07h00, the second at 08h00 and the third and fourth at 08h30. You can subscribe to our daily email by clicking on the pink envelope on the right hand side of the blog

Lazy Monday

30 Apr

I’m afraid there won’t be any items for sale today – I’ve decided to have a lazy Monday! I hope you all had a wondeful long weekend and I’ll see you again on Wednesday. Happy Workers’ Day for tomorrow!

Corning Ware Saucemaker – SOLD

24 Apr

Corning Ware saucemaker

Corning Ware saucemaker

This is only the second Corning Ware saucemaker that I’ve ever come across. When I sold the first one on Mint I wasn’t aware that these bowls origially came with a detatchable handle. Sadly this one is also missing its handle, but I don’t think it’s a huge train smash – you could still use it on the stove if you wanted to, you’d just have to use some oven gloves to remove it from the heat. And if you’re weary of getting your hands burnt, it could easily be reinvented as a mixing bowl – one with a very interesting shape. There are some faint scratches on the bowl, but for the most part it’s in excellent condition, but then again it is Corning Ware, a quality brand that makes things to last.

Dimensions: 11cm tall x 18cm in diameter (at its widest)

Sky-line Potato Chipper

Vintage Sky-Line potato chipper

Vintage Sky-Line potato chipper

I often come across potato chippers, but normally they’re quite large and a bit too industrial for my liking. This is the most compact version I’ve seen, and has the added benefit of being made by Sky-Line – my favourite name in vintage kitchenalia. I don’t really know much about this company other than that they were based in England and produced a huge assortment of kitchen utensils, always with these great painted wooden handles. I didn’t have a potato in my fridge, but tried it out with an apple (yes, an apple!). It worked pretty well, although it did require a bit of muscle and left the skin behind, but I think a potato skin would probably be fine! There’re some areas where the metal is marked, but on the whole it’s not in bad nick. The perfect accessory for Sunday night fish ‘n chips!

P.S. My father just phoned me to point out that you peel potatoes before you slice them, so my comment about the apple skin is null and void – thanks Pops! (P.S. added after the blog was posted!)

I Heart Market

5 Apr

If you’re struggling to entetain your family over the looong weekend (whoop!) pop on down to the I Heart Market on Saturday! They’ve finally finished the paving so hopefully this month’s market will be a little less dusty. For those of you who don’t know, we’ll be under the trees opposite the restaurants at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Look out for the canary yellow table and chairs that Mint has for sale, and our usual collection of quriky smalls. Hope to see you there!
