Seeing Double

6 Feb

I’m very lucky to have a solid base of very dedicated supporters who follow Mint, and so to keep up with the demand I’ve decided to try and post four items a day going forward. It might be problematic in terms of sourcing sufficient stock, but I’m going to try my darndest! So from today onwards (holding thumbs) I’m going to be posting one item at 07h00, another at 08h00 and two items just before 09h00.

Happy shopping!

Hamilton Beach Mixer – SOLD

3 Feb

Hamilton Beach mixer

Hamilton Beach mixer

This vintage Hamilton Beach mixer is in great condition given its age. There’s some discrepency over the exact date of manufacture -some sites say it dates to 1939, and others the early 1940s, but either way it’s close-on 70 years old. I doubt that many of the machines made today will still be going in the year 2080 – I think most of them will have made it to the scrap yard by then! In its day this was a top of the line machine retailing for nearly $30 in 1941 (see print ad below). I’ve never come across one before that has its juicer attachment – this version does, but sadly it’s missing the one crucial part that attaches the juicer to the machine – but if you persevere I’m sure you’d be able to pick one up fairly cheap on eBay. Fortunately it does still have both of its mixing bowls which are in perfect nick. The only serious wear and tear is to the mixing blades where the metal is slightly corroded, but I’m sure with some TLC they’ll keep going for a good few years. I’ve always thought that the HB mixer was quite beautiful, but you do get different models, and this version is particularly good looking – the design of the base just does it for me! A solid piece of design that will look good in any kitchen.

Dimensions: Stand – 32cm long x 19cm wide; Mixer – 22cm long x 15cm high; Large bowl – 22cm in diameter x 12cm tall; Medium bowl – 16cm in diameter x 11.5cm tall

We’re Back!

6 Jan

Hello people! Happy New Year and all the rest of those good tidings! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and sufficient rest to see you through the year ahead. Mint is back in action with our first post going out at 07h00 this Monday. I’ll be in CPT the whole of next week (a bit of a belated holiday) so won’t be on line much. I’ll check my emails daily and respond to emails and comments at the end of each day.

Here’s to a fantastic 2012!

Vintage Ceramic Jelly Mould – SOLD

13 Dec

Vintage ceramic jelly mould

This is possibly the coolest jelly mould I’ve ever come across! I really like the glass moulds, but there’s something extra special about a ceramic jelly mould. I also really like the shape of this mould, which is slightly more angular than most moulds you’ll find. There’s a few scuff marks on the points, and a few more on the inside of the mould, but overall the condition’s not bad at all. A great piece for all those serious collectors of kitchenalia out there.

Dimensions: 12cm high x 20cm long x 15cm wide
