Vintage Cozy-Glo Fan Heater – SOLD

29 Jun

Cozy-Glo fan heater

Cozy-Glo fan heater

After the icy weekend we’ve just had in Jozi, I think all of us should invest in a little Cozy-Glo feet warmer! Even in Durbs (where it really doesn’t get that cold) my brother had a Cozy-Glo that he used to keep going under his desk on the odd chilly winter’s day. Of course these heaters can be used anywhere (not just at your feet!), although again I don’t think that they’d do a great job of heating a large room. But if you have the right space and are looking for something more attractive than the cheap stainless steel heaters available for sale in the shops then look no further!

Vintage Enamel Heater – SOLD

I’ve never been that comfortable in the cold, but I’ve definitely developed a new appreciation for heaters since we moved to Joburg – gee whiskers it’s chilly in this town! I’ve had to buy a proper winter wardrobe and I’ve littered the house with heaters! Obviously this little guy won’t do for seriously large rooms, but there’s nothing better than curling up right in front of a heater to defrost your hands or toes. And if, like me, you spend a fair bit of time at your computer it doesn’t hurt matters to have a toasty little heater going at your feet! I love the baked pastel green enamel and the space invaders shape of this vintage heater – so cool! Plus it has a super long cord so you can drag it to various points in the room without having to unplug it!

Dimensions: 36cm wide x 25cm tall

Price: R380

General Electric Fan Heater – SOLD

10 Apr

General Electric fan heater

General Electric fan heater

Don’t you just love the uber modern design of this retro General Electric fan heater – seriously, in its day it must have been absolutely mad! I just love the angles of the heater, and how it’s perched on those slim chrome legs. It’s a pretty small piece so would only really be good for heating your tootsies, or a small room, but who cares about such practicalities when you’re talking about something this good looking!

Note: There is some wear to the heater – please look at pictures under ‘more’.

Dimensions: 13cm tall x 29cm wide x 20cm deep

Price: R320

GEC Ball Heater – SOLD

12 Jan

GEC ball fan heater

GEC ball fan heater

OK, I know that this is so the wrong time to be selling a heater (who can think of such things in the midst of a sweaty Durban summer!), but I just couldn’t wait to show off this great GEC (British General Electric) ball heater! While they were relatively common place when I was growing up, they’re pretty hard to come by these days, especially in such good nick! The plastic is a bit scratched, and the inside of the heater (which I can’t get to to clean) has a fair bit of dust, but the overall look is very clean – and very cool! I love the bright orange plastic, and the ball shape is such a design classic. Plus it’s safety-conscious too – if the ball happens to topple over it will self-level, no matter which direction you knock it in.

A great retro accessory for any home, and when winter does one day arrive your toasty feet will be so glad you made the investment!

Dimensions: 28cm in diameter

Vintage Siemens Bar Heater – SOLD

19 Jun

Vintage Siemens bar heater

Vintage Siemens bar heater

This vintage Siemens heater may be a bit worse for wear, but even in this rather sorry state it’s still way more attractive than most of the modern heaters out there! Plus it’s in good working order, has a handle for you to move it around, and is fairly compact so it won’t take up too much room!

An interesting and fairly effective heater – the perfect way to heat your toetsies before you jump into bed at night!

Dimensions: 33cm wide x 30cm tall x 10cm deep

Price: R265

Vintage Bar Heater – SOLD

Vintage bar heater

Vintage bar heater

I know that they can’t compete with big gas heaters when it comes to heating a room, but there’s nothing better than warming your toes in front of an old-school bar heater when you’re really icy! I grew up in Hillcrest, which compared to Jozi and CPT is still pretty tropical, but for us Durbanites it’s about as cold as it gets, and one of my very favourite things to do was to heat my feet (to the point of burning!) when I came home from school. And even now, as an adult, I can’t stop myself from falling asleep curled up on the floor in front of our bar heater at home – it’s just delicious! So while it’s definitely not going to heat the whole house, it will do a great job of heating just you when you really, really need it!

Note: There is some wear to the metal (see pics under more).

Dimensions: 30cm wide x 27cm deep x25cm tall
