General Electric Fan Heater – SOLD

10 Apr

General Electric fan heater

General Electric fan heater

Don’t you just love the uber modern design of this retro General Electric fan heater – seriously, in its day it must have been absolutely mad! I just love the angles of the heater, and how it’s perched on those slim chrome legs. It’s a pretty small piece so would only really be good for heating your tootsies, or a small room, but who cares about such practicalities when you’re talking about something this good looking!

Note: There is some wear to the heater – please look at pictures under ‘more’.

Dimensions: 13cm tall x 29cm wide x 20cm deep

Price: R320

GEC Ball Heater – SOLD

12 Jan

GEC ball fan heater

GEC ball fan heater

OK, I know that this is so the wrong time to be selling a heater (who can think of such things in the midst of a sweaty Durban summer!), but I just couldn’t wait to show off this great GEC (British General Electric) ball heater! While they were relatively common place when I was growing up, they’re pretty hard to come by these days, especially in such good nick! The plastic is a bit scratched, and the inside of the heater (which I can’t get to to clean) has a fair bit of dust, but the overall look is very clean – and very cool! I love the bright orange plastic, and the ball shape is such a design classic. Plus it’s safety-conscious too – if the ball happens to topple over it will self-level, no matter which direction you knock it in.

A great retro accessory for any home, and when winter does one day arrive your toasty feet will be so glad you made the investment!

Dimensions: 28cm in diameter

Price: R350

Vintage Siemens Bar Heater – SOLD

19 Jun

Vintage Siemens bar heater

Vintage Siemens bar heater

This vintage Siemens heater may be a bit worse for wear, but even in this rather sorry state it’s still way more attractive than most of the modern heaters out there! Plus it’s in good working order, has a handle for you to move it around, and is fairly compact so it won’t take up too much room!

An interesting and fairly effective heater – the perfect way to heat your toetsies before you jump into bed at night!

Dimensions: 33cm wide x 30cm tall x 10cm deep

Price: R265

Vintage Bar Heater – SOLD

16 Jul

Vintage bar heater

Vintage bar heater

I know that they can’t compete with big gas heaters when it comes to heating a room, but there’s nothing better than warming your toes in front of an old-school bar heater when you’re really icy! I grew up in Hillcrest, which compared to Jozi and CPT is still pretty tropical, but for us Durbanites it’s about as cold as it gets, and one of my very favourite things to do was to heat my feet (to the point of burning!) when I came home from school. And even now, as an adult, I can’t stop myself from falling asleep curled up on the floor in front of our bar heater at home – it’s just delicious! So while it’s definitely not going to heat the whole house, it will do a great job of heating just you when you really, really need it!

Note: There is some wear to the metal (see pics under more).

Dimensions: 30cm wide x 27cm deep x25cm tall

Price: R190

Small Retro Floor Heater – SOLD

22 Aug

Cozy-Glo heater

Cozy-Glo heater

You’ve got to love the name of this vintage fan heater – isn’t Cozy-Glo a great name?! Makes me feel all warm just to hear it said out loud. The body of the heater’s taken a bit of a beating over the years, and someone’s engraved their name into the paintwork at some point, but luckily they were smart enough to do it on the back of the heater, so it’s not that offensive. It also doesn’t work on the low setting, but really who ever uses the lowest setting on their heater – we want to get warm, and get warm quickly! These heaters are perfect for keeping your feet warm while you work – I have one warming my feet right now as I write (I really do!), and it makes a massive difference. Aside from the name, and the fact that it works so well, it’s also a really attractive machine. It’s a bit of an odd description for a heater, but it really is quite cute isn’t it? Something about its rounded corners and suitcase-style handle.  A very sweet little heater that will look good while keeping the cold at bay at the same time.

Dimensions: 25cm tall x 24cm wide x 14cm deep

Hoover Fan Heater – SOLD

13 Aug

Hoover 2000 fan heater

Hoover 2000 fan heater

This Hoover heater isn’t exactly going to heat up your whole house, but it’ll do a great job of keeping your toetsies warm while you sit at your desk, or lounge in front of the telly. I love its boxy shape, and the orange enamel finish is just fantastic! For some peculiar reason someone had attached two metal plates to either side of the heater, which I’ve removed, but obviously the holes where the plates were attached remain (see pics under ‘more’). There’re also some small patches of rust and areas where the paint is bubbling, but the overall look is still pretty clean. A big thank you to my boyfriend, justin, who gave this little heater a service! Such a clever lad!

Dimensions: 12cm high x 35cm long x 19cm wide
