20 Apr

Enamel coffee percolator

Enamel coffee percolator

I don’t think that this enamel percolator has any great age to it, but it’s in great nick and has a lovely shape to it. The percolator parts are very clean, so I think it probably hasn’t seen  much use. Perfect for camping or for use on a gas-top stove.

Dimensions: 20cm tall x 13cm in diameter (at its widest)

Price: R120

Collection of Enamel Bowls – SOLD

Collection of enamel bowls

Collection of enamel bowls

I bought this great collection of enamel bowls from an old trader who used to have a store in Mooi River. He closed his shop down 20 years ago, and these bowls have been stored away ever since, so even though they’ve got a bit of age to them, they’re still in mint condition – just the way we like it! It’s quite an assortment of enamelware – some of them are nice and solid, and others are lighter and a bit more tinny, but all of them are reasonably good quality. My favourites are the small mustard bowls (they’re probably the best quality) and the blue flower and green leaf bowls – so very sweet! I have a bit of a mish-mash collection of enamel bowls in my kitchen and Niall & Chris (who do the cooking!) tell me that they’re very handy indeed.

Note: It’s quite hard to see the different sizes of the bowls in the photos so please have a look at the various dimensions below. None of the bowls are that large – I’ve just called them large, medium and small to differentiate between the sizes.

Lidded Enamel Pan – SOLD

18 Apr

Kockums enamel pan with lid

Kockums enamel pan with lid

I would have thought that this sweet little enamel dish dated to somewhere around the 1950s, but according to one of the museum sites I was reading, Kockums  (Sweden) closed their factory in 1939. I’m not sure whether or not that’s accurate, but all references to Kockums enamel do say that it’s fairly rare which would back up the dates. I’m not really sure what you would use this pan for? Based on its weight I think it was definitely intended to be cookware (as opposed to a serving dish), but it’s so petite that I can’t think what you’d cook in it! Whatever it’s function, I’m certain that it will make any collector of enamelware verry happy indeed!

Dimensions: 18cm in diameter x 8cm high (with lid on)

Pair of Small Enamel Buckets – SOLD

16 Apr

Pair of small enamel buckets

Pair of small enamel buckets

I’m not sure what these small enamel buckets were originally intended for? They’re about half of the size you’d expect them to be, but still large enough to be useful – you could use them for recycling organic matter (keep one on your kitchen counter for fruit and veggie cuttings), as pot plants or full them with beach sand and use them as outdoor ashtrays. I bought them because it’s quite unusual to find buckets with their original enamel lids, plus it’s nice to find a pair. There’re the obligatory chips in the enamel, but their condition isn’t bad compared to a lot of the older enamelware you find. A sweet pair that’s sure to add a bit of character to your home.

Dimensions: Each bucket measures 20cm tall (with lid on) x 18.5cm in diameter

Price: R120 each

Enamel Storage Tin with Lid

Enamel tin with lid

Enamel tin with lid

I’m not quite sure what this enamel tin is meant to be used for? It almost looks like a cake tin, but the lid is curved which means you couldn’t use it for turning a cake upside down, although it’s about the right size for a cake. It’s quite battered and there’re a few aeras which are a bit rusty, but it’s still functional. An interesting piece with some serious age to it.

Dimensions: 30cm in diameter x 15cm high (with lid on)

Price: R110
