Enamel Fridge Tray – SOLD

2 Feb

Enamel fridge tray

Enamel fridge tray

I’m not really certain what you would use this enamel fridge tray, but it’s such a lovely piece of vintage enamelware that there was no way I was walking away from it! It has such a great ’50s shape to it, and I love the ridged bottom and the metal strip where the writing’s worn away. I suppose you could use it as a deep baking tray (as far as I know heavy enamel like this would be oven-proof), or return it to it’s original purpose and use it in your fridge – I used to have one that I stored all my bottles and jars in. And if neither of those uses appeal to you it could also serve as herb planter. There’re a few patches where the enamel has worn away (see pics under ‘more’), but it still has plenty of life left in it. Whatever you choose to use it for I’m certain it will make its new owner very happy!

Dimensions: 35cm wide x 35cm long x 10cm deep

Enamel Slotted Spoons and Small Jug- SOLD

Small enamel jug

Small enamel jug

Everyone loves enamel (and if they don’t they really should!). I’m not actually sure what it is that’s so appealing about enamel ware, but it’s definitely very desirable, especially the older pieces. This pair of slotted spoons, and small milk jug are lovely examples of vintage enamel. They’ve got just the right amount of wear, without being unuseable, and are nice solid pieces. The jug does have some chips on the inside of the base, which isn’t ideal, but I think it’s still passable. A lovely collection to add a bit of warmth to your kitchen decor.

Dimensions: Black & white slotted spoon – 36cm long; White slotted spoon – 34.5cm long; Jug – 13cm tall x 8cm in diameter (at its widest)

Price: Slotted spoons – R90 each; Jug – R55 (more…)

Enamel Jug and Dish – SOLD

Enamel jug & enamel dish

Enamel jug & enamel dish

I waited several hours to buy an enamel jug on auction the other day, but it went for a crazy price so sadly I left empty handed after a very long wait. A few days later my brother very kindly bought me this great enamel jug with matching dish – a very different style to the farmhouse version I saw on auction, but priced within most of our means and with lovely clean lines to it. Plus it has nice weight to it, so you know it wasn’t made yesterday. There’s a small amount of wear and tear on the inside of the jug and a few scratches on the outside, but nothing too serious – it’s definitely still a very functional piece of enamel. I’m not entirely sure what you would do with the matching enamel dish – it’s a bit of an odd size. Perhaps a two-man lasagne or a small potato bake? A good looking bit of enamelware that would satisfy any collector.

Dimensions: Enamel jug: 20.5cm tall x 15.5cm in diameter; Enamel dish:  28cm long x 20cm wide 6cm deep

Price: R170 for the pair

Pair of Enamel Colanders – SOLD

Pair of Enamel Colanders

Pair of Enamel Colanders

I’m sure I’ve said it before (in fact I know I have!), but there really is something quite lovely about enamel colanders. I love the shapes that are formed by the drainage holes, and while I’ve always liked the look of aged enamel, battered enamel seems to work even better with colanders. I particularly like the red colander – aside from the fact that it’s red (always a winner), it has quite an unusual base: the bowl is separated from the base by three gaps. I’m not sure why it’s designed this way, but the aesthetics of it work well. Every house needs a colander, so if your kitchen’s lacking one you should nab one of these beauts!

Dimensions: Red colander – 12cm high x 24.5cm in diameter; White colander – 9cm high x 22c in diameter

Price: Red colander – R110; White colander – R85

Oversized Enamel Cup and Six Small Bowls – SOLD

11 Nov

Oversized enamel & set of 6 small bowls

Oversized enamel cup & set of 6 small bowls

I’m not really sure what you’re meant to do with this oversized enamel mug? I have a mint green version that I use for storing my cutlery, which works really well, but I obviously don’t use the lid. Perhaps you could use it as a super-sized sugar bowl? I’m not sure what other purpose the lid could serve. The bowls are the twin set to the white bowls I sold earlier this week. They’re a slightly different blue to the cup, so aren’t really a set. Great bowls for breakfast, plus your kids won’t be able to break them if they don’t approve of what’s on the menu!

Dimensions: Enamel mug – 19cm tall (with lid on) x 15cm in diameter; Enamel bowls – 16cm in diameter x 7cm high

Price: Enamel mug – R65; Enamel bowls – R65 for the set
