Collection of trinket boxes

How lovely do these boxes look grouped together – inspires me to start a collection! All three of them are quite special, but the star for me is the cut-glass art deco box. It’s a serious piece of glass of a very high quality- just look at the detail in those beviled edges. And I love the fact that it’s so simple. Such an unassuming piece with some serious style to it. It does have a very minor chip on the underside of the lid – so minor in fact that I didn’t spot it on first examining it, but other than that it’s in excellent condition.

The cut-glass dish that almost looks like a vintage perfume bottle does have a bit of damage to it. Some of the points have very small nicks, and the red finish has chipped in places. But it’s still a very beautiful piece! I particularly like the handle which is so elegantly cut. A fine piece of glass that would look super-classy displayed on a dressing table or in a bathroom.

The lucite box has a seriously cool name attached to it: “Plastic Creations of Hollywood”! Lucite is a type of plastic that became fashionable after the Second World War when it overtook bakelite in popularity. It was often used in lieu of glass as it was less expensive and easier to work with, but had the same clarity as that of glass. Sadly over time, this box has lost some its clarity and its age can be seen in the lines that appear like minor cracks inside the lid (see pics under ‘more’). That being said it’s in reasonably good nick for its age, and would still make quite a statement.
