Glass Serving Platter

I’m not sure of the age of this glass platter, but there’s definitely an art deco feel to its shape. Whoever manufactured this glass did a great job of choosing the perfect colour – there’s something about the design of the dish and the lightness of the rose tinted glass that works really well together – a beautifully elegant piece!

B&A Carpet Bowls – SOLD

28 Feb

Supposedly these miniature carpet bowls have the same ‘bias’ as the real thing – from what I gather that means that they’re weighted in the same way as standard lawn bowls, and I suppose would thus require the same level of skill to play. I bought them because I think they’re quite beautiful, have a definite feel of quality to them (have a look at the engraving at the bottom of each bowl – so lovely), and would probably be a very entertaining family game! They go for around 50 quid on the UK ebay so at just over R200 this set’s a steal!

Tala Cook’s Measure – SOLD

Tala Cook's Measure with Original Box

Tala Cook's Measure with Original Box

I’ve come across quite a few of these Tala Cook’s Measures over the years, but generally they’re badly rusted and full of scratches. This is the first one I’ve found in its original box, although the box itself is not in great condition. This particular model was manufactured in 1950 and is in near perfect condition. The box provides a recipe for Marble cake that calls for dried eggs – the lady I bought it from said that she remembers people using dried eggs during the war when fresh eggs weren’t available – sounds delightful! The measuring cup is for dried food stuffs and provides easy measurements for baking ingredients such as icing sugar and rolled oats. Most of the measurements are in ounces, but there are also one or two cup measurements and a conversion from pounds to grams on the outside of the cup. This really is a lovely example of retro kitchenalia – hopefully it will a find a deserving home to go to!

Snack Platter – SOLD

Snack Platter

This snack dish is both funky and practical – the bright orange finish makes it stand out and the raised bowl in the centre will hold a generous portion of dip for those crudités! The platter has a few scrtaches, and the paint work is wearing thin in places, but it’s still quite a striking piece.

Ceramic Vase – SOLD

24 Feb

I think that this oversized ceramic vase is in all likelihood handmade as it has no makers mark to speak of. That being said it would have to be a very experienced potter who would be able to throw a vase this size, so perhaps I’m misstaken. Either way it has the most fantastic green glaze, and I think it would look just lovely with some fresh delicious monsters in it!
